request - Midi commands to trigger external devices

Postby Cablecr69 » 12 September 2018, 08:43

Hi,

Is there a way of placing midi commands on a timeline to trigger external devices in ShowXpress though USB?

I want to control my XR12 desk, i.e. FX mutes from the timeline with midi, as i use it to play backing tracks and synced lights.

Thanks,

Chris

Sorry but this is not possible.
Our software only receives midi commands, and it can return one midi command for each received midi command.

I would suggest to use an external DAW or MIDI sequencer to trigger both the XR12 and ShowXpress. If you are on WIndows, you can do that on the same PC that runs ShowXpress via a "MIDI loop" app.
This one for example:

Hello Support,

With refence to above ive noticed on button trigger Midi Output can be selected.

Is it possible to have a midi command ouputted when the button is triggered by any means......so if i click the button lets say or the button is triggered on a time line.

Im looking to have the midi command ouput no matter how the button is triggered.

Or even better to have a timeline effect like BPM/stop/pause which can send a single midi command. Would this be hard to do?

It would allow me to automate everything from Showxpress.

Thanks,

Chris

Sorry but this is not possible.
Presently, we do not plan to add the "midi sequencer" ability in our software.
There are already midi software which do that efficiently.

So the "Button Trigger" Midi output will only output when triggered by a midi inout command?

Would it not be simple to allow a midi command output regardless of how the button is triggered?

BTW - I love the software and my entire tribute show is run from Shpwxpress - This would just allow me to automate my mixer too.

Thanks for your support.

Actually, the "Midi out" command defined in the "Button Trigger" window is sent regardless of how the button was pressed

Im not seeing it ouput through the usb port on my usb to midi lead.

I selected the port and divice in the midi output settings in prefrences.

Do i need to route internally first?

I don't think so but maybe "de-selecting" + "re-selecting" + "apply" will solve your issue...

Your right...it is trggering now after delselecting and re-selecting.

If only we could trigger this from the timeline....as we cant trigger a button from the timeline.

It seems to me that all the ingregiants are there...just need the dots joining.....

I really only want to use this to mute and unmute my effects but if ive got to press a button...then i can do that on the ipad thats conrolling the desk...where as if i could do it on the timeline it would be automated after i start the track...on the timeline....

A midi button on the timeline like the BPM would be perfect......sendout a midi command when we need to...i wouldnt need any other software.... does sending midi take a lot processor/sftware wise?
