request - snap vs fade for masters

Postby dumbfungus » 23 February 2020, 02:21

Setup: akai apc40 midi into showXpress laptop. Master dimmers are on various faders.

Problem: when I bring faders up and down, I get jittery dimming because cheap faders. The fixtures are capable of smooth dimming, but the controller is not precise enough.

Solution: pop up option (right click) a master fader. Set dim time for faders. That means I can bring fader up/down fast, and the software will “catch up” due to slower fade. It allows for smoother dimming

I use a 2 step Step-button for this, and then have a 1s fade in the step-file
That way I keep the Master Fader as a master, and not a dimmer.

Thank you for the response.

I have several groups of fixtures, each with their own masters. For example. One master for my wash LED cans, one master for my moving lights, one master for uploghfs, etc etc.

Would your solution work for that? I guess it’s a bit unclear to me

What i’ve done is have default fade on all color buttons for all fixtures. Then use a speed fader to control fade in. That way I can have movers move into positions and pars and other static lights ready for when the scene starts. For fade out the buttons default fade kicks in.
Move speedfader down, click the next effects and colors. Movers move into position and ready to go.

This may not be a solution to your jittery dimmer by akai, but it works
