Not consistant timing

Postby zorpiedoman » 06 December 2021, 02:01

I gave up on this software two years ago, and I though I would give it a try once again as I prepare to head out on the road with a new tour...

Make a new scene with three steps:

step 1 blue 00:00:50
step 2 white 00:00:10
step 3 blue 00:00:50

Then hit play watching the results either with real lights or the 3d viewer.

You will notice that the white flash misses sometimes.

If you change step 2 to 00:00:15 it does not miss, but you can tell the duration changes ever so slightly.

Why does this happen? Can it get fixed?

I want to create lightening flashes but it seems that ShowXpress is still not up for the task. It's a bummer because I would like to be able to use the 3D viewer to build my stage/set/lights.

The USB frame speed refresh from our software is 20Hz (synchronous), which is ok for 0,05s.
The DMX frame speed refresh from the latest generation of our DMX interfaces (D512S, D1024, Rack1024) is 40Hz (asynchronous), which is ok for 0,05s too.

We suspect a USB refresh lag from the computer. That would be a good idea to try with another computer.

To know also:
the DMX frame speed refresh from the previous generation of our DMX interfaces is 30Hz (asynchronous), which may explain some lags at such speed.
