How to make lights pulse to a kick drum (for example)

Postby fiasco » 23 August 2017, 21:23

I've got an aux output on my x32 sent to the microphone input of my show express PC.

The aux output is a mixbus which I can use my faders to adjust the input sends to the aux channel.

So lets assume I'm only sending the kick drum mic to the aux bus (and therefor, all show express see's for audio input is the kick). How can I make a light pulse when the kick drum is hit?

Hey mate, your best bet is to use a MIDI trigger.

You will need some software to convert the audio feed off the kick drum into MIDI signal. There are free plugins available on places like KVR Audio that can do this.

From there, you would need to route the MIDI signal from the plugin (presumably hosted in a DAW of some sort) into ShowXpress/Lighting Controller. LoopBe is a good piece of free internal MIDI routing software.

Finally, you would need to create a flash button in Live mode, which trigger the lights you want to "pulse", then set the MIDI input trigger of the button to the midi note being sent from your kick drum.

Hope that helps! Any questions let me know

Fiasco, did you try this and what did you come up with as a final solution?
