Export/Import lightshow vs Copy/Paste lightshow folder

Postby bshoc » 05 January 2017, 05:13

I'm trying to understand the reason for export and importing shows. If I'm wanting to use it on another computer. What is the difference in export/import and simply copying the folder of the show, and pasting it on the other computer? Thank you!

Same.
PS: Copy/Paste requires some "advanced" computer knowledge.

Is there a reason that the fixtures don't export when I export the light show from El Capitan? I tried copy pasting them in to the folders, in the correct sub folders, they show up as being there in the folder directory, but do not load. I also found that some scenes created did not export, again trying to copy paste them in, it says they are there, but will not open.

Please help! Thank you.

Additional question: should it work in theory, that if you want to keep editing a light show on one machine, but want to use a different laptop for rehearsals and live performances, in order to "update" the light show on the "performance" laptop, you should just be able to copy paste in the new scenes and new timeline file into the light show folder, and all will work?

This would be a great help.
It's currently not working on mine.
Thank you!

First answer
We already saw that because of two things:
1. the user manually swap uppercase / lowercase characters in the names of the folders/files. This is forbidden.
2. the user uses special characters for the names of the fixtures/scenes/..., which are authorized in an OS and not authorized in the other OS.

Second answer
We do not guarantee such action.
We suggest to share the same lightshow via the network.

Hello,

I can't access my main 64-bit computer but was given a backup of the entire Sweetlight directory. I need ti copy these back to my old 32-bit which was running Sweetlight recently.

I am now constrained to a manual copy files structures below.
Before I do anything real bad, can anyone assist on do's and don'ts ?
- Sweetlight directory
- TheLightingController under Users⧹myusername⧹My Documents⧹

I tries to find a similar topic, apologies if there is one.

Kind regards,
Pat

We suggest you to use the import/export lightshow functions.

I have no longer access to this computer otherwise of course I would have use this very convenient functionality.
I managed to obtain the described file structures. I know there are a few files to edit. If you could help me you would avoid a big mess for an upcoming gig.
I truly appreciate your efforts,
Patrick

The lightshows are stored in folder "TheLightingController", in the "home directory" folder. The location of "home directory" depends of the operating system. For more info about "home directory", please read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_directory.

The lightshows are stored in the folder "TheLightingController/LightShows/".
Copy/paste the folders do same as import/export.
