Where are the DIP switches?

Postby Lighter007 » 02 June 2014, 13:49

Can someone tell me where to find the DIP-Switch calculator in V7? I really enjoyed the feature just seeing how to set up the DMX adress in my fixtures. Was it removed in V7?

The DIP switch calculator is not present in V7, for two reasons:
1. so far, all recent fixtures (for some years already) show now the dmx address in a nice lcd display
2. since we can move the fixture to any address, which means no more existing "edit address" menu, we do not know where to put it

If you still need a dipswitch calculator there are plenty to choose from in app stores for tablets and smartphones. I keep one on my phone for whenever I need one.

But you can't just "patch" to any address any easier than you could previously.

I'd still include this display somewhere until you offer TRUE patching ability which moves the entire show. Otherwise, we are still VERY limited on where a fixture actually ends up.

Yes, that is a limitation that I constantly deal with. I have my own solutions to that but it takes some work to deliver a pallette based approach with. Needless to say adapting to various rigs, incorporating new fixtures, adding fixtures could be handled better in the software. But each programmer has their own approach and solution. Me? I am right now tweaking a 3 universe, 100 Live page programme with 1020 scenes and 70 folders to organise those scenes.
