Patching & Pallettes

I like Showxpress, but the one peice I don't like is it's inability to be flexible with changing gear. Let's face it, our gear appears to change by the day with the addtion of inexpensive LED lighting. As it stands, if you switch out a fixture, you're stuck reprogramming. With patching and pallets, it could be by passed. Yes, you can do this in a round about way like building a page as pallettes, but it's not the same. If you swap out fixtures and addresses, it creates a mess. Please, Please, add the ability to patch devices and use palletes.

If you go this route (the evil "E"mpire) hasn't caught on, then you can theoretically "share" programs and add those in with new macros. We are all limited to how many hours we can program; harnessing social media and the web, you could see your software explode. Why not beat them to the punch?

So many social groups where someone asks "does anyone have a sow for..." If we could patch, then we could help build the community by sharing our show and then just reassigning to the right DMX channels. Right now the answer is always "No, sorry but you'd have to have the exact # of fixtures and also have them on the exact DMX channels"

Also, CHAUVET (and employees of) could now build a show for basically every fixture they make and be able to share them with the retailers who display their products. So EVERY dealer running ShowXpress can immediately have a way to demo a fixture without having to build something themselves or only running on sound active. The possibilities are endless! Let's get on this :)

We understand the "patch device" requirement. We presently found two solutions:

1. after you move the fixtures in tab "Fixtures", we recompile all scenes
This is the fastest solution, but it is not the best.

2. we change the format of the lightshow data (we replace "dmx address" info by "fixture nb" and "fixture channel" info)
This is the best solution, but we have to change each source code line which concerns a fixture channel (long job), and we loose the compatilibity with existing lightshows.

We are still looking for other solutions.

But regarding "use pallettes" in our software (which means keep the concept of "Editor Steps & Generator"), please tell us how you see the software upgrade, in order to make Editor pallettes friendly.
