Timeline End Transition?

I have a "background" light scene that runs constantly, plus several timelines that can be triggered to alter the lighting.

When each timeline comes to an end, the lights abruptly snap back to the background scene, and I'm looking for a way to smooth that transition.

Any suggestions/links are appreciated; thanks!

To overcome this problem, I have always faded my last scene in my timeline to be exactly the same as the background scene.

Thanks to you both!

In my case the background scene has several steps in it, crossfading between colors. If I put a piece of the background scene at the end of the timeline, it starts at the first step of background scene. But the original background scene may be on a different step at that point, so there's still a visible jump when the timeline background scene ends.

Sounds like making the background one step/color is a workaround, but any other suggestions are appreciated.
