Abnormal delay to load the wav file

Postby JohnRichards » 07 August 2014, 19:38

I have just finished doing some tests on the last 3 versions and have experienced a time delay problem with loading with ver 7.17
I reloaded version 7.15 and this problem disappeared, and also when the patch for V 7.16 was loaded it was also ok. Please check this with V7.17 (it might be the waveform loading that is causing the problem).

In further testing, I loaded a completed show in V7.17 and have numerous windows crashes when loading a timeline button especially when it is over 5 minutes in length. Version 7.15 worked without problems, but the patch for V 7.16 also crashed.

Hope this is a minor issue.

If possible, please send us your lightshow including the media files, via a free transfer service.

Hi Support.
The files are quite large as all sound files are ".wav".
However, for purposes of sending them to you, I converted all ".wav" files to ".mp3" (128Kb) and before sending to you I tested the show.
I was surprised to find that it worked without crashing. As soon as I linked the timeline back to the ".wav" files I get a Windows crash.
I presume that it could be a memory error when ShowXpress attempts to load all the waveforms.
Your comments would be appreciated.

Thank you for this clear report.
There should be a minimum file size to get this problem.

Can you please give us an idea of how heavy is the timeline, regarding the wav files ?
(number of wav files, size & properties of each wav file)

Then, we will try with a similar timeline, with similar wav files.

Hi Support.
All files are standard wav PCM signed 16bit stereo 44100Hz.

Track 01 - 03:12 - 33,3Meg
Track 02 - 03:13 - 33,2Meg
Track 03 - 04:24 - 45,5Meg
Track 04 - 01:19 - 13,6Meg
Version 7.17 is ok until here, but will not let me load anymore audio after that.
Track 05 - 02:52 - 29,6Meg
Track 06 - 01:00 - 13,7Meg
Track 07 - 00:48 - 08,1Meg
Track 08 - 01:46 - 18,2Meg
Track 09 - 01:13 - 12,5Meg
Track 10 - 01:01 - 10,5Meg
Track 11 - 02:26 - 25,1Meg
Track 12 - 05:50 - 60,2Meg
These all load with no problem using Version 7.15 but in V7.16 and V7.17 crash with more than the 1st 4 tracks.
There is also a significant time delay from pressing a TimeLine Live Button and the TimeLine actually starting between versions 7.15 and 7.17, and it appears to be mainly from the time it takes to load the waveform.

Hope this all helps - Keep up the great work. (This software is so simple to use, but very powerful).

Hi Support,

I have just completed another test and have reloaded and resaved all my wavefiles with short names (ie "01Wish.wav" instead of the old one "01 When you wish apon a star.wav"), went into the mp3 timeline, and changed all the audio clips in timeline to the new wave files, and wow - no more crashes.
I am happy, but rather confused as to what is happening. Any ideas?

Maybe because of the spaces in the name..? Its the only difference I see. Try "01_When_you_wish_apon_a_star.wav"

@Lighter007
The problem is that these timelines work perfectly in version 6,34 and version 7.15
The only crash is with versions 7,16 and 7,17
