Random flashes

Postby pogjack » 24 September 2018, 03:39

Had issue with V8 also. Church setup: 41 Chromaq inspire house lights. 6 adj led flat par. 4 led strip light 24 channel dmx deciders.

When I change scenes on live buttons I get a random quick flicker. Scene works and dims from/ to properly but has that quick noticeable flicker. Same button will work for me for long time or short time then will flicker. Makes all lights flicker. It has happened enough times that I must question it.

Has happened also on timeline when going from one scene to another. Would do it randomly but work great other times.

Does not cause an issue except makes me look like an idiot with the lights flicker off for split second.

New windows 10 HP 64bit. 2 terabytes. Touchscreen all in one. I5.

Thanks

Please confirm your software version is 8.2.28.

If yes, please tell us if you see this flicker in the "dmx bargraph" window.

It happened in latest V8 and in he brand new V9 (not beta)

I will try to run some test with the dmx bargraph up and see what happens.

Yes. I was able to test it this evening. I even recorded it with my phone. Random channels will flash. And not all the time. No consistency on the flashes and what makes them flash.

One possible cause is weak DMX signal. Long story short the D512 box isn't particularly strong in terms of voltage. Sometimes with large rigs or long DMX runs, the signal gets very weak and causes bad data, creating such things as flashes like you said. A good way to test this is to try plugging into a DMX splitter/optical isolator and going from there. That always fixes it for me. I now have that as the first point in my DMX chain at all times.

You can also try it with a different lighting console. If the flashes still happen with a different console, the issue would instead be related to problems in your data line, possibly a bad lead, or a fixture playing up

We tried to reproduce the problem without success.
Could you please tell us exactely what to do in the software (buttons in Live, selected group in Steps, ...) ?
We would like to have the same dmx channels setting than in your video.

I haven't noticed any particular instance.
On the video, I had "Main Service" on. In editor I am adjusting all the "StageRight Led"'s. I am adjusting the dimmer fader.

It's random, but consistently doing it. I will have a scene on during church and try to adjust a dimmer fader (dimmer, white, red, green, blue, etc) and it will flash.
