TheLightingController crashes Randomly

Postby TACVideo » 29 November 2022, 22:59

We are using Companion (Bitfocus) to "remote control" TheLightingController (TLC), and I've been working with the author of the Companion Module (QuickDMX) to "cleanup" and fine-tune the environment. While TLC has been a lot more stable, we're still experiencing crashes once a week and the past 2 weeks were 3 minutes into the message unfortunately.

I've worked with the Chauvet support guys who looked over TLC and tweaked 1 or 2 things, but we're not making much progress...

The logs on the Companion side look clean, so I'm not sure what's causing the crashes.

Does anyone have any ideas or know how to enable debug logs on the TLC side? Currently the only "logs" I've found are related to trying to reopen TLC too soon and the port is still in use...

"External messages management" have recently been updated (https://thelightingcontroller.com/viewt ... 433#p30553).
Please try V9.3.4 BETA and let us know.

Thank you! I'm up and running on 9.3.4, I will report back in a week or sooner if there are issues.

Unfortunately it crashed yesterday as someone went to turn on the lights and again twice today, less stable than before.

Also, not specifically related to this Beta, when people hit "Reopen" on the crash page the TCP Port is not released before the App reopens so there's a TCP error resulting in Companion being unable to connect to the API, resulting in repeated restarts further delaying bringing lights back up.

the TCP Port is not released

After a software crash, the socket is not closed properly so the tcp port is blocked. If you open the OS task window, you will certainly see a running thread for our software and you will have to manually kill the thread.

I cannot reproduce, it's random, but it only appears to happen while we have Companion connected to the API (even though we are not actively sending commands when it crashes).

Companion Debug logs shows no commands at the time of crashes. Is there a way to enable Debug logs on the LC API so we can see if it's an actual command or something else?

You can try with this executable which will give informations at crash time :

Oddly no crashes so far on the Beta_Debug...

However, with both the regular Beta and the Debug versions, I can't drag the faders in the Editor with any mouse - Faders work fine on the Live page though (just FYI)
