Driver problem [fixed]

Postby LT1 » 08 March 2015, 16:09

Hi all -

I just bought an unidentified USB dongle which looks like this.

Image

The previous owner said he thought he'd used "Showtime Express" on a Mac.

When first connected, I see this in Device Manager (Windows 7, 64bit):

Image

If I download the drivers from this forum and point the entry at the folder, I get this:

Image

...install...

Image

I then get the Cable driver appear in Device Manager, but also the rogue "USB Serial Port" entry that's cropped up on the forum before.

Image

I can't get rid of this. If you uninstall it, it just reappears. If you point it at the drivers folder, it's not interested.

If I then run ShowXpress, it doesn't like the dongle.

When I run USBVIEW I see this:

Image

I also tried installing Sweetlight, and that does seem to recognise the dongle and let me into the program.

Image

I still can't get rid of the "USB Serial Port" entry however, even with the Sweetlight drivers.

I could disable it and ignore it...I haven't actually managed to get the interface working with lights yet, but that's probably just my ignorance of the software. Before I go any further however, could you confirm whether it ought to be working or not, given the above...? I still don't know for sure exactly what this dongle is, or the software I should be using with it.

Thanks!

Your interface is a SweetLight interface.
So you have to use it with a SweetLight software.

Caution: this interface does not work under MacOS (viewtopic.php?f=16&t=30).

Thanks - so what about the error on the "USB Serial Port" in Device Manager...? Does it matter, or can I just ignore it...? (I've tried this on three machines - two Windows 7 32bit, and one Windows 7 64bit, with identical results.)

Je lance Sweetlight (... ou Showpress...ou)... et il me dit "There is one not compatible. pleas remove it"...

Merci
