10 Fixture limit

Postby Johann911 » 16 January 2012, 07:13

Forgive my ignorance on this matter, but I would like to make sure I'm not just wasting money hiring too many fixtures.
I am aware of the 10 fixture limit on the DMX100 cable, but I want to double check my logic in this regard.
I have done several shows in the past with the interface, but I have never used more than the limit.

Later this year I have a show that I would really like to deck out with a (relatively) impressive lighting rig.
I intend to use the following fixtures:

2 x Dimmer packs
4 x RGB LED PARcans
2 x Moving head washes
2 x Moving head profiles
2 x Powerbanks / Colorado 3 (any light with 3 different LED modules)

I intend to have the 4 LEDS slaved together in 2 groups of 2.
Does this make 10 fixtures or have I exceeded?
I know it sounds like a stupid question, but will the slaving make multiple fixtures count as one?

This effectively makes 10 fixtures.

Just a note for the guys who are also restricted by the new cable software,
the 2 dimmer packs can be changed to a single 12 channel dimmer pack, thereby saving 1 fixture.

I have another topic to bother you with!
Say I have 4 RGB LED cans, 4 separate fixtures.
Could I create a fixture in setup that incorporates all 4 fixtures into one (like the 4Bar) and create the dummies for 3D and
have that count as only one fixture on the cable?

In other words, control 4 cans separately, not slaved, and only have it count as 1 fixture?
Hopefully I make sense?

You can Create 1 Led Parcan that say is 4 Cannels, = 1 fixture.... then you could put 4 parcans all on the same DMX adress this means they would all do the same.
how ever this means it is one fixture so makine dummies in the 3d few would be impossible due to the programing only sending out 4 cannels worth of dmx for 1 light.

also if you put all 4 parcans on the same adress so the program thinks its 1 fixture you can not make them do diffrent things.

hope this helps
