3DViewer Crashes when selecting OPenGL

Postby 80SRocker » 04 October 2023, 04:02

I need some help to figure out what is causing 3DView to crash as soon as I move a control in steps. I am new to ShowXpress and am trying to figure out what could be causing the crash to occur. It is just the 3DViewer, not ShowXpress. I have OpenGL selected in the 3D settings. 3DViewer does not crash when OpenGL is not checked, but the graphics are not as good. Also, I cannot get the tilt rotation to work for a Intimidator Wave 360, just the pan works and lights. Could be the same issue. Some info about my computer. I built this computer about 12 years ago and planned for the future with the hardware and upgraded some. Here is the info:

Windows 10 64bit
Gigabyte P55A-UD3P
Intel I7 CPU 860 @ 2.8 Ghz, 4 cores
16 Gb Ram, Kingston DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 5750 Graphics Card, PCI Express x 16
Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB
Gateway 27" Monitor
Samsung 24" Monitor

The computer still runs very well and should be able to run 3dViewer, I hope. I don't know what else information you might need.

Thanks!

Regarding the "OpenGL" crash, please update the video card driver.

Regarding the "non working tilt rotation", this is another problem. Please post the personality file (.txt) and we will check it.

The manufacturer does not have a video card driver update since 2015. If a new PCI Express x16 graphics card would fix the problem, I might consider getting one. Please let me know if any other information is needed.

Thanks.

We are not 100% sure the problem is the video card driver, but in most of the cases, a video card update fixes the problem.
That said, your video card may be too old. No driver updates since 2015 means your video card is even some years older than year 2015. So getting a new more recent one may be not luxury.

Once I select the 3d icon, by the dmx icon, the lights that are hanging down immediately tilt up in the 3d window. After that I can't get any sequence of faders or fader settings to make it move again. As I mentioned before, panning works, no problem. But the head tilt does not. Is there a setting in the fixture or somewhere else that is wrong? Thanks for all your help. And I might still try a newer video card, to see if that helps.

This looks like another problem.
If yes, please post it in a new thread.
