Renaming a fixture in the editor resets 3d view properties

Postby TimH » 13 April 2017, 00:36

Hi support,

Just wanted to report a small bug. If you have moved/coloured/changed the orientation of a fixture in 3d view, then go and rename said fixture in the editor, the fixture's properties all reset to default! This ruins all the hard work you have done getting your fixture looking just right in 3d view. It would be nice to see this fixed so you can rename your fixtures whenever you like :)

This is not a bug.
3DView comes from an earlier version than V8, and it has not been updated with "fixtures based" programming.
Big job, which shoud be fixed in next major software version V9.

Ah cool thanks for the heads up! Again just a small thing but looking forward to the big update in Version 9 :)

As I do face this issue with the latest version I was searching this forum and came up this thread.
Has this actually been fixed in v9? Would be really great, because now renaming a fixture resets everything in 2D and 3D viewer and triggers a lot of additional work for such an easy operation as renaming.
Thanks!

This is not fixed. Sorry for that.

Please note that, it is possible to recover the 3D settings if you have an old backup of your lightshow, and if you are friendly with INI files:
- take the file "../YourLightshow/3DView/fixtures.ini"
- edit the file and change the name of the fixture with the new name
- replace the file in the new lightshow
Before trying that, we strongly suggest you to make a fresh backup of your lightshow.

Thanks for the response.
I'll try the INI file approach!

Noted.
Please mind to make a fresh backup of your lightshow, before modifying the ini file.

I managed to rename my fixtures.
Did this completely using the INI files.
Changed the name of the fixtures in the fixtures.ini file in 3 locations:
- Lightshow root map
- 3Dview map
- Editor\2D View map

That way all positions are maintained in 2D an 3D viewer as well.
